The main activities of the department of serology and leptospirosis of the Tula Testing Laboratory are laboratory studies aimed at preventing and eliminating contagious animal diseases, approved regulatory documents that allow for timely diagnosis and prevention of animal diseases, preventing the occurrence, limiting the spread and eliminating diseases, including diseases in the list dangerous and quarantine infections of animals, approved by the Ministry of Agriculture of Russian Federation; The goal of the department’s work is to ensure a stable and prosperous epizootic situation on the territory of the Russian Federation and to protect the population from diseases common to humans and animals.

The department of serology and leptospirosis annually takes part in interlaboratory comparison tests.

Conducts serological studies on the following animal diseases:

- bacterial diseases:

-Brucellosis (Brucellosis), a chronic infectious disease of animals and humans, caused by bacteria of the Brucella group; The causative agent of the disease is a group of microorganisms of the genus Brucella. Three are pathogenic for humans: the causative agent of small ruminant brucellosis (Brucella melitensis), the causative agent of cattle brucellosis (Brucella abortus), the causative agent of pig brucellosis (Brucella suis);

-Infectious epididymitis of rams (Epididymitis infectiosa arietum) - a special form of brucellosis in sheep - acute and chronic infectious disease flowing, manifesting proliferative inflammatory processes in the testicles and their appendages, they atrophy, decreased reproductive function in rams and ewes have - abortion, birth of nonviable lambs and infertility;

- Leptospirosis - an acute infectious disease, the causative agent of which are bacteria of the genus Leptospira (Leptospira);

- Listeriosis - a disease caused by pathogenic Listeria (Listeria). L. monocytogenes causes disease in humans and animals, and L. ivanovii only in animals;

-Sap is a contagious zoonotic bacterial chronic infectious disease caused by the bacterium Burkholderia mallei and proceeding as a septicopyemia with the formation of specific granulomas and abscesses (sapnymi nodules) and manifested by ulcerative rhinitis and lymphadenitis, purulent-necrotic lesions of the skin. Basically, sap affects horses, mules and donkeys;

- Paratuberculosis (paratuberculosis enteritis, Ione's disease) is a chronic infection affecting ruminants and some non-ruminant animals. The causative agent of the disease is Mycobacterium avium subsp. paratuberculosis;

- Anthrax - a particularly dangerous infectious disease. The causative agent of anthrax - Bacillus Bacillus anthracis;

- chlamydial infections:

- Chlamydia - a sexually transmitted infection caused by chlamydia (Chlamydia trachomatis);

- viral diseases:

- Cattle leukemia (Bovine leucosis; hemoblastosis, chronic infectious disease of a tumor nature) - a chronic disease of a tumor nature that is asymptomatic or characterized by lymphocytosis and malignant growth of hematopoietic and lymphoid cells in various organs. The causative agent of the disease is an RNA-containing virus of the Oncornavirinae (tumor viruses) family of the Retroviridae family;

-Infectious catarrhal fever ("blue tongue") of sheep is a particularly dangerous transmissible sheep disease. The causative agent of the disease is an RNA-containing virus;

- parasitic diseases:

- Occasional disease (squat, durin) - an infectious disease of one-animal animals (horses) caused by the trypanosome species (Trypanosoma equiperdum);

-Toxoplasmosis (lat. Toxoplasma) is a monotypic genus of parasitic protists, including, apparently, one species - Toxoplasma gondii. The main owners of Toxoplasma are representatives of the feline family;

For diagnostics, the following methods are used: serological (agglutination assay, Bordet-Gengou test, prolonged complement fixation test , immunodiffusion reaction ,rose bengal sample,microagglutination test, precipitation assay, milk ring test) microscopic, hematological, enzyme immunoassay (ELISA)

The issue of the research results is carried out in the terms established by guidelines, manuals, GOST, international standards (guidelines) on research methods.
